Supporting Native Title rights and interests, cultural heritage protection and land stewardship for the Yungngora peoples.
Yungngora Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate that holds the determined Native Title Rights and Interests on behalf of the Yungngora People over the Noonkanbah Pastoral Lease and Yungngora community.
YAC represents the Native title holders in engaging with all levels of government, the resource sector and other parties wishing to undertake projects within the Noonkanbah Native Title Determination area.
YAC is managed through and works alongside Noonkanbah Aboriginal Corporation, which operates as the community council and manages essential services, infrastructure and holds the Noonkanbah Pastoral Lease. This also includes working with Kulkarriya Community School which is located in Yungngora community and is part of Noonkanbah Aboriginal Corporation. Together, all organisations support the Yungngora community and the determined Native Title Holders through complementary but distinct roles.
YAC also supports programs and initiatives that are grounded in Country, culture and long-term sustainability.
Nyikina Walmajarri Ranger Program
The Nyikina Walmajarri Ranger Program, delivered by YAC, is strongly aligned to the ongoing promotion and protection of the Yungngora Peoples’ Native Title rights and interests over the Noonkanbah Pastoral Lease.
The Yungngora Native Title Group is made up of Nyikina and Walmajarri peoples, in an area where the Great Sandy Desert meets the flood plains and Martuwarra (Fitzroy) River.
The Ranger program delivers on-ground land management activities, combining traditional cultural knowledge with contemporary environmental practices.
Rangers undertake work across:
- land management and conservation
- cultural heritage protection
- monitoring and environmental management
- community engagement and education
The Ranger program plays an important role in Caring for Country while creating employment and skills development opportunities for Yungngora people.
Current approach
Due to ongoing administrative and access considerations with legacy systems and domains, information about YAC is currently hosted within the NAC website.
This provides a practical, accessible way to share information and ensure clarity while longer-term digital arrangements are resolved.
Looking ahead
YAC continues to strengthen its role in representing native title holders and supporting programs that deliver cultural, environmental and community outcomes.
As systems and access are resolved, there may be opportunities to expand YAC’s standalone digital presence in the future.
